ATLANTA, GA 30303 The Smart Start Early Education Substitute Teacher Program is an innovative 5-day course specifically designed to recruit and instruct adults in how children, birth to five, develop and learn, and how to support their developmental needs in a child care program. Smart Start graduates understand the needs and environment of child care centers and will provide children with a caring and knowledgeable substitute teacher when their regular teachers are out. The course is free, and candidates for the program must complete an application and meet program requirements to be eligible to participate. Goal of program: � Provide qualified substitute early care and learning substitute teachers to licensed and registered Bright from The Start childcare facilities. � Provide an alternative pathway into the educational field of early care and learning Substitute Teacher trainees receive a sound foundation in early care and learning: � Information on how children learn and how to support their learning � Brain Development & Child Development � Culturally, Linguistically and Developmentally Appropriate Practices & activities � CPR & first aid, Health & Safety, Recognizing Child abuse & Infectious Diseases � The Daily Routine, The classroom and learning centers, Parent Communication � The Smart Start Early Education Substitute Teacher Program provides: � A training content notebook and resource material � 18 BFTS state approved hours of credit (Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care & Learning) � A CPR and First Aid card � Employment search tips and childcare resource information to develop a personal plan for a job search Who benefits from this professional development program? � Available pool of knowledgeable and energetic substitute teachers � Substitute teachers with 18 BFTS state approved credit hours � Pool of potential future early care and education teachers � Consistency of staffing when a regular teacher is out For application or more program information � go to www.ecegasubs.org or Monique Baldwin, Program Coordinator mbaldwin@unitedwayatlanta.org Search all Education causes >>
