Clinical Trials Matching ServiceThe American Cancer Society Clinical Trials Matching Service is a free, confidential program that helps you, your loved ones, and health care professionals find cancer clinical trials that may be appropriate for a person’s medical and personal situation. Through a relationship with the Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups, we can help you find research studies that are testing new drugs or methods to prevent, detect, or treat cancer, which may help you get well while finding cures for the disease.
Cancer Education ClassesIf you are looking for information and answers about cancer, the American Cancer Society’s free educational program called I Can Cope® can help you and your loved ones cope with various aspects of your cancer experience by providing relevant information and tips to improve your self-care skills. Classes are typically taught by cancer care experts in cancer treatment centers or other community meeting places. I Can Cope classes can help dispel cancer myths by presenting straightforward information and answers to cancer-related questions about: 1. Diagnosis and treatment 2. Side effects of treatment 3. One-on-One Support for Men with Prostate CancerIf you or a loved one is facing prostate cancer, the American Cancer Society Man to Man® program offers group education, discussion, and support. Man to Man also helps support men in high risk groups, health care professionals, and community groups and organizations.
One-on-One Support for People with Breast CancerFinding out you have breast cancer can be a scary experience, but the American Cancer Society can help you cope with your breast cancer diagnosis with one-on-one peer support through its Reach to Recovery® program. Trained volunteers who are also breast cancer survivors provide support and information for anyone facing breast cancer through every step of the journey, as well as for spouses/partners, children, friends, and other loved ones.
Transportation AssistanceEvery day, thousands of cancer patients need a ride to treatment, but many may be too sick to drive themselves, do not have a car or someone to help drive them, or may not have enough money to pay for gas and transportation costs. The American Cancer Society helps people facing cancer focus on getting well by providing free transportation assistance to and from treatment. Dedicated volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars so that patients can receive the lifesaving treatments they need.
Free LodgingThe American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® Network offers cancer patients and their families a free, temporary place to stay when their best hope for quality care may be far from home. It provides a nurturing, home-like environment where patients and caregivers can retreat to private rooms or connect with others who are going through similar experiences. Every Hope Lodge offers a variety of resources and information about cancer and how to fight the disease. Guests have access to the American Cancer Society's 24-hour toll-free call center and Web site, as well as a comprehensive on-site library designed to help them and their caregivers make informed decisions.
Personal Guidance through Every Step of the Cancer JourneyThe health care system can be hard to figure out on your own, but there is help. The American Cancer Society Patient Navigator Program provides guidance for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers through every step of the journey to help you navigate the cancer experience so you can focus on getting well. Patient navigators are located within cancer treatment facilities to meet one-on-one with newly diagnosed patients, their families, and caregivers. Patient navigators may identify specific needs and promote informed decision-making by providing important information, resources, and support.
Look Good…Feel BetterThe Look Good...Feel Better® program is a free service offered to women going through cancer treatment to help boost their self-esteem. Volunteer beauty professionals teach women with cancer about makeup, skin care, nail care, and ways to deal with hair loss such as with wigs, turbans, and scarves. Each woman gets a free makeup kit to use during and after the workshop. For patients who are unable to go to a group workshop, a free, one-time, individual salon consultation with a volunteer cosmetologist may be available in their area. The Look Good...Feel Better program is a collaboration among the Personal Care Products Council, the American Cancer Society, and the National Cosmetology Association.
Relay For LifeThe American Cancer Society Relay For Life® is a global movement to end cancer that celebrates the lives of those who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost and provides everyone with an opportunity to fight back. Our “tlc” Tender Loving Care (TM) catalog and magazine for women offers helpful articles with an entire line of products made for women fighting cancer. Products include wigs, hairpieces, breast forms, prostheses, bras, hats, turbans, swimwear, and accessories. All proceeds from product sales support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to help people stay well and get well from cancer.
An Online Community of SupportShare your cancer experiences and find support on the American Cancer Society’s free online community called the Cancer Survivors Network (SM) – created by and for people with cancer and their loved ones. This welcoming, safe environment features discussion boards, chat rooms, member pages, blogs, an expressions gallery, member-created resources library, private and secure email, and more. A member search function allows you to search for others with similar experiences, characteristics, etc. Registration is free but is required to access most of the site and actively participate in the community.
