IKE NEED IS GREAT; RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF FUND DEPLETEDRecent hurricanes Gustav and Ike are among more than 60 large disasters since January that have depleted the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The Red Cross has launched a national fundraising campaign to help those who are suffering from Hurricane Season 2008 meet their immediate needs for food, shelter, counseling and other critical services. American Red Cross helps residents begin road to recoveryAmerican Red Cross volunteer disaster assessment and casework teams have been pounding the pavement in the Metro-Atlanta area, working to meet the needs of those affected by the floods. Preliminary data shows that 2,803 homes in Georgia have been affected by the flooding; 745 of which are destroyed, 760 have major damage.
American Red Cross to deliver more than 3,000 meals todayAs part of its flood relief operation, the American Red Cross will provide meals to more than 3,000 people today, which marks the eighth day of the organization’s outreach efforts.
