Our Mission: Atlanta Habitat for Humanity partners with working families, sponsors and communities to build affordable, green, quality homes and to provide support services that promote successful home purchase and ownership. %newline% %newline%Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, one of more than 1,600 U.S. affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing to Atlanta's working families. Founded in 1983, Atlanta Habitat has built more than 1,000 homes in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, empowering and improving the quality of life for more than 3,500 family members. Atlanta Habitat builds 50-60 houses each year, making it one of the largest builders of affordable, single-family homes in Atlanta. Beginnning in 2008, Atlanta Habitat has been able to serve families in 10 metro Atlanta counties, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dawson, DeKalb, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Henry. %newline% %newline%Volunteers from corporations, faith-based and civic organizations have worked in partnership with qualified homebuyers to construct affordable, green, quality homes. Atlanta Habitat enlists and encourages volunteers from all faiths, races and economic backgrounds to provide necessary hands-on construction labor. In 2008, Atlanta Habitat recruited and managed approximately 15,300 volunteers who gave time valued at more than $2.8 million. %newline% %newline%Atlanta Habitat homes are sold to homebuyer families through no-profit, no-interest loans. Homebuyers complete 250 hours of sweat equity and 12 homeowner education classes, make a downpayment, pay a monthly mortgage and work side-by-side with sponsors and volunteers to help build their own and other Atlanta Habitat homes. %newline% %newline%We work with communities, residents or organizations where we build to identify potential homebuyers. Through outreach sessions and informational meetings, prospective homebuyers learn what is required to qualify for the Atlanta Habitat program: steady income, good credit and a need for better housing.
