SILENT AUCTION- Creative Intervention for children and youthSaturday, December 05, 2009Artists Go For Broke to Help Juvenile Court Clients Artists from VT, TX, and Puerto Rico join Atlanta community based nonprofit, Enjoy Art, to raise funds for creative intervention programs for children and youth at risk. Nicholas Piliero, youth programmer from the Bronx and Westchester NY , said, “I have to give it away to keep it”. Calvin Hudgins (of Midland , Texas ) is an amazing 30 year old who painted several murals with Harry Hamlin, an artist serving a 40 year sentence for robbery in a day-work release program at the Dawson County Jail. The pair worked with at risk youth to paint several murals around Lamesa, TX. “$50,000 per incarceration per year is not a solution to crime. There are programs in the US that are successful at teaching habits of self-control and self-discipline that cost less than a third of what we are spending on jails that do not address the potential of cycles that reoccur when we release offenders back to the same streets and temptations…” said Latesia Coleman, Co-Founder of Enjoy Art. The What, Where, and When… Enjoy Art Design Group, Inc (Enjoy Art) was incorporated and received charity status in 2006. Formed by a group of concerned Artists and citizens working with children and youth in Atlanta ’s inner city, the group they have partnered The Study Hall, Inc., Operation Peace, Families First Group Homes, and AFPL Public Libraries. Reaching out to youth in underserved communities through their mobile program, ArtReach, Enjoy Art travels to agencies and engages youth in a mentorship program that teaches a variety of Arts projects during after-school hours when youth are most likely to engage in risky activity for lack of constructive opportunities. Since receiving approval from Fulton County Juvenile Courts as a diversion program Enjoy Art has been fundraising to expand their services to obtain a classroom/studio space and passenger vans to provide transportation for youth to have easy access to their services. A SILENT AUCTION for Creative Intervention has been planned for Saturday, December 5th in Midtown at The Warehouse/Atlanta International Church. Enjoy Arts’ Founders solicited friends and were surprised at the supportive responses. Among the list of professionals donating their talents and services to help this cause are; Beatrice Copeland, Program Director of The Study Hall, Inc; Heather Infantry-Johnson, Development Director of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church; Marco Razo, Professor and Painter residing in
