Backpack Buddies Set-Up and AssemblyWednesday, August 12, 2009 - Wednesday, December 16, 2009Backpack Buddies is a program of the Food Bank of Iowa that provides a sack of child-friendly food to low-income kids on weekends, when they do not have access to the federal free and reduced-price meal program. Volunteers are needed on a monthly basis to prepare and assemble the sacks of food at the Food Bank of Iowa's warehouse facility. This opportunity is perfect for: Small groups (no larger than 8 or 9) Individuals Anyone over the age of 16 with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds This opportunity occurs one Wednesday or Thursday afternoon per month. Please call or email Sarah Bonefas at the Food Bank of Iowa to check date availability. We are currently seeking volunteers for dates in August through December. Must be 16 years of age or older and able to lift up to 25 pounds. Closed-toe shoes and clothing appropriate for a warehouse environment are required.
Fresh Fruits & Vegetables from Your GardenWe are looking for any kind of fresh fruits and vegetables. If you have a garden and have extras of anything, please donate it. You may drop off donations during our business hours of Monday through Friday, 8-4:30.
Holiday TurkeysWe are looking for frozen turkeys to distribute to our partner agencies who in turn will be able to pass them out to their clients for the holidays. Certificates or monetary donations specified for turkeys are also great. Please store turkeys at 0 degrees or below until delivering to the Food Bank of Iowa.
