The Metro Atlanta RSVP program, sponsored by ARC, is currently accepting applications for volunteers to help educate older adults about issues that are important for remaining healthy and independent in their communities. Join a force of talented volunteers, age 55 and over, whose members are utilizing their unique life experiences and skills to share messages with older adults on topics such as how to access needed services; protect themselves from fraud; disaster preparedness; computer literacy and much more. RSVP volunteers play a critical role in providing education and outreach in the community so older adults can make informed choices about available services and programs. Free training is provided for all volunteers and flexible schedules are available. Volunteers 55+ are eligible to receive mileage reimbursement and supplemental insurance. Metro Atlanta RSVP Volunteer Program In July 2008, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), Area Agency on Aging (AAA) was awarded grant funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service to serve as sponsor for the RSVP program in the metro Atlanta area. RSVP is the countryâ??s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and older, engaging more than 400,000 older adults in volunteer service annually. Metro Atlanta RSVP is looking to capture the talents of experienced adults and baby boomers who are looking for meaningful, challenging ways to give back to their community. Volunteer opportunities focus on civic engagement, community education and outreach to help older adults and people with disabilities maintain independent, healthy lifestyles. This program serves Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties. Key partners supporting metro Atlanta RSVP include, Cobb Senior Services, Clayton Senior Services DeKalb Office of Senior Affairs, Life Enrichment Services and Gwinnett Senior Services. Additionally, metro Atlanta RSVP is an important component of ARCâ??s Lifelong Communities initiative which is working with local communities to create a regional response to the growing older adult population from the ground up. Key community issues volunteers will address through RSVP include: ï?§ How to access needed services ï?§ Importance of preventive health services ï?§ Consumer fraud education ï?§ Increased awareness of environmental issues ï?§ Computer literacy ï?§ Medicare insurance counseling ï?§ Disaster preparedness ï?§ Supportive services to older adults and senior centers To become an RSVP volunteer, an individual must be 55 or older and have an interest in helping people maintain independent, healthy lives. Volunteers do not need to be subject matter experts in any of the subject areas, training will be provided. Supplemental insurance and minimal travel reimbursement is also provided to volunteers. RSVP volunteers play a critical role in providing education and outreach in the community so older adults can make informed choices about available services and programs.
