Dress for SuccessBeing successful at work and at school is facilitated through the clothes closet maintained by SWEEAC which includes clothes for men, women, children and youth. The clothes closets are manned by volunteers from the partner churches, the community and the clients themselves. They receive, sort, size and display the clothes and accessories that are donated by the partner churches, local cleaners and individuals. They also assist the clients in selecting the clothes they need.
Anti-hungerOur anti-hunger activities include a food pantry which is stocked with food items received from the Atlanta Community Food Bank, donations made by local grocery stores and donations from the partner churches in our community of faith. Disaster relief assistance is available for victims of Hurricane Ike, other weather related conditions and fire. In partnership with DFACS and Georgia Healthy Families, we now screen interested applicants for food assistance.
Christmas EventDuring our Christmas Event, toys, food boxes, bikes and gift cards to teens 13-16 years of age were distributed. The Marines Toys for Tots is the major contibutor of toys and bikes and additional assistance was provided by The City of Atlanta and The Atlanta Community Food Bank. At day's end, 352 families representing 1,610 family members, which included 663 children and youth were served.
Life Skills EnhancementTo fulfill our purpose and meet our objectives, we are providing life style changing programs which include employment resources, access to computers and Social Sevice resources, in partnership with DFACS and Georgia Healthy Families.
Children-at-Risk and Hunger ProgramOur children-at-risk efforts are centered around all school age children through our Kid's Korner and our summer reading program. Additionally, our Back-to-School program provides book bags loaded with all the necessary age-appropriate school supplies a child would need. The Anti-hunger program provides food boxes to families so children can receive food during school breaks.
Thanksgiving Box DistributionMonday, November 23, 2009 - Tuesday, November 24, 2009A typical box for Thanksgiving will be filled with ham, turkey or hens, vegetables, bread, beverage, cereal and snacks and will be distributed to clients who request holiday assistance. Hundreds of clients stand in line to receive these well stocked boxes. The event is festive and includes a variety of volunteers from the community.
Free Books and Back to School Supplies DistributionSaturday, August 07, 2010Free books distributed through \"The Books for Miles Foundation\" for school age children and book bags filled with grade appropriate supplies given to children at risk grades pre-K - 12th grade.

Thanksgiving and Christmas AssistanceSaturday, December 19, 2009Volunteers are needed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Season to receive, sort, pack and distribute food boxes. Help is also needed to sort toys by age and gender.
Financial DonationsFinancial donations help to purchase food for pantry, health and beauty aids, school supplies, gift cards for teens during Christmas, new books for children and supplies for infants such as diapers and formula.
LaptopsLaptops are needed for two staff members who work in the field. This will allow them to stay connected to the office and clients during work hours and available for emergencies.
Assistance for Flood VictimsRequests are in for replacements for school supplies including book bags and MARTA Breeze cards for victims who lost the use of vehicles in the recent floods of 2009. Funds and/or gift cards are also needed to help victims purchase health and beauty aids, replace perscriptions, etc.

Youth Development
Food Assistance to Combat Anti-hunger and Flood VictimsThe success of our program relies heavily on a well stocked pantry of nutritious food. We are in need of canned vegetables, soups, meats and fruits. Other items such as dried beans, cereal, rice, pasta, boxed food, bakery items and jello are also needed. When available, families receive fresh produce, meats, dairy products and bread.
New BooksNew books are needed for school age children for our \"Betcha Can't Read Just Three\" reading program. The goal is that every child receives three new books. Incentives are given to children who mail back a personal thank you to SWEEAC and The Books for Miles Foundation. If a book report is submitted, these children receive an additional incentive.

Outstanding Community Service AwardDuring the 2008 Jubilee Day sponsored by The Atlanta Chapter of The NAACP, SWEEAC and it's Director, Ernesta B. Ingram were awarded The R. L. White, Jr. Community Service Award. The presentation took place on January 1, 2008 at Big Bethel A.M.E. Church in Atlanta. Jubliee Day is an annual observance of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Women Making A DifferenceErnesta B. Ingram, Director of The Southwest Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center is recognized by Pine-Sol as a woman making a difference in the community.
Appreciation Given to SWEEACSWEEAC is recognized by Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services for their contributions to its 2007 Holiday Program. The Center provided food and toys to families receiving assistance through DFACS.
Faith and the City RecognitionSWEEAC receives The Faith and the City Beloved Community Award for Best Practices in Public Ministry.
