Special Education Classroom VolunteerMonday, June 08, 2009 - Friday, July 02, 2010The 504 School is a 501(c)3, GAC accredited school located in Midtown Atlanta that fills an educational void for educationally at risk students students ages 5-11 years of age who have severe adhd and accompanying social, emotional and academic struggles. Our school is dependent on teaching our students through experiential instruction. We need consistent volunteers (as little as 2 hours weekly) who have specific professional skills in the arts, science, or any other area of interest or expertise that they can teach or introduce to our students in a creative and interesting way. We also need classroom helpers to work one on one in the with our students using academic materials provided by the teachers. School hours are between 8:30 and 2:30 on Monday through Friday. Volunteers must be physically able to work with hyperactive, impulsive students, be willing to provide references and a submit to a background check.
Safe, Well Maintained VanThe 504 School is a 501(c)3, GAC accredited school located in Midtown Atlanta that fills an educational void for educationally at risk students students ages 5-11 years of age who have severe adhd and accompanying social, emotional and academic struggles. All our students come to us from a place of failure. Our very active and curious students require an educational approach that is experiential, hands on and multisensory. As part of the school day we take our students off site four days of the week so they can participate in activities that enrich the learning including field trips throughout Atlanta, hiking, swimming, and rock climbing. We need a van to safely transport our students. Currently our teachers drive and we emply drivers just to transport our students. We have a very low teacher to student ratio (1:4) so we need many cars. A van would enable us to put more resources toward staffing and curriculum materials.
